Among the widely acknowledged and universally accepted stem cell treatments, since the very evolution of medicine, are bone marrow therapies for an array of hematopoietic disorders.

Recently the use of bone marrow stem cells in regenerative medicine has also been tried with excellent success. Hence the concept of preserving one's own bone marrow for future use emerged.

The bone marrow contains potent combination of Hematopoietic and Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in large numbers. These are multipotent stem cells that can potentially trans-differentiate into a variety of blood components, osteoblasts, chondrocytes, myocytes, adipocytes, neuronal and beta-pancreatic islets cells. The successes of these procedures lie in the ability of these stem cells to form cells, tissues or organs that need repair or regeneration and this forms the very cornerstone of its widespread application in treatment of leukaemia, thallasemia, various forms of anemia, bone disorders, osteoarthritis, cardiac failures, nervous disorders, diabetes type I and II.

For adults diagnosed with a disease or at risk of developing a disease, the option of harvesting and storing their own bone marrow is very critical, since the condition could potentially be treated by stem cell therapy. Storing stem cells early may also increase your chances of obtaining a higher number of quality stem cells if needed in the future for transplant.

The cells are collected from a single sample and processed, purified, harvested, amplified and suitably stored in ReeLabs under appropriate GMP and GLP conditions.

ReeLabs is one of the only companies in the world that is offering bone marrow storage options for future use. It is also one of the only companies in India that has an active stem cell expansion (growing large numbers of stem cells) program in case of inadequate sample collection or ineffective primary stem cell count. If needed, we can provide this unique service to our clients. The laboratory can also suitably culture and amplify these stem cells yielding ten to hundred times its original count. Hence occasionally, even an insufficient original quantity can also be processed, cultured and suitably amplified before commencement of therapy.

Harvested cells from bone marrow will be processed to remove blood, and frozen (cryopreservation) to keep the stem cells alive until they are needed for your own use (autologous transplant) or for the use of a matched receptor (allogeneic transplant). Stem cells can be potentially cryopreserved for many years.

By virtue of ReeLabs' revolutionary, (patented) proprietary technology, a collection of about 50 to 150 ml of bone marrow could easily yield upto 1000 million Stem cells.

Several clinical trials around the world are currently studying and assessing the therapeutic benefits of using adult bone marrow stem cell for the treatment of disorders such as:

  • Multiple cancers, Leukemias, lymphomas and other tumors.

  • Heart diseases such as: acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, Cardiomyopathies and heart failure.

  • Peripheral vascular disease: leg ischemia (poor circulation), non-healing wounds, gangrene.

  • Neurological diseases: ataxia, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, optic neuropathy, Parkinson's disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's disease, Brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and others.

  • Muscle-skeletal disorders: fractures, scleroderma, Myopathies, Osteoarthritis.

  • Organ failure: Cirrhosis, diabetes, Crohn's disease, COPD, Chronic Renal Failure, lupus.

Research also shows that besides the potential use of these cells for the donor, these cells can possibly be used to benefit other family members who are genetically related to the donor, such as a parent or a child.

Whilst an umbilical cord and cord blood can only be stored once, bone marrow stem cells can be preserved at any age and multiple times.

It is also possible to isolate these cells and instantly use them in treating numerous degenerative disorders including diabetes, bone, nervous & cardiac disorders.
